20 Years of Opportunity – Saxony-Anhalt's largest trade fair for jobs and careers. Record number of exhibitors: the 2024 fair will start with 315 exhibitors.

On February 23 and 24, 2024, Saxony-Anhalt's largest education, job and start-up fair will open; since 2004, it has been an important address for finding one's personal future and shows a variety of apprenticeships, study opportunities and job prospects. This year, there are 315 exhibitors – the chance is thus greater than ever since the fair began 20 years ago.

In times of a shortage of skilled workers, the opportunity is more pressing than ever. “This is confirmed by the continued high level of interest from our exhibitors, who consciously rely on the fair: “The bundling of labor market-relevant topics under one roof offers students and trainees, but above all job seekers and those looking to change jobs, the ideal platform,” emphasizes Beate Zwerenz, managing director of HALLE MESSE GmbH. Under the motto ‘Shaping the future yourself’, the opportunity opens up the possibility of exploring the right career path in personal discussions with HR managers, study and education providers, or even trainees themselves, or of applying directly for vacancies. Minister President Dr. Reiner Haseloff has once again taken on the patronage; in his video message for the opening, he emphasizes the high esteem in which the job fair is held in the state of Saxony-Anhalt. Prof. Dr. Thomas Brockmeier, Chief Executive Officer of the Halle-Dessau Chamber of Industry and Commerce, will speak in his keynote speech “From problem to solution. Develop skills. #canlearn”.

Official opening: Friday, from 10:30 a.m., Hall 2, Podium

Training Exchange, Study Opportunities and Job Fair

The opportunity is aimed in particular at young people who are looking for orientation for the right career path and job seekers alike. At the fair, they have the perfect opportunity to find out from the exhibitors about their options for finding the right career path for them. With specific job offers, renowned companies are recruiting new specialists in many fields and with different qualification requirements. Personnel managers and future colleagues provide advice on site, give insights into the dream job, present new professions and answer all questions relating to training paths, career entry and taking up employment – an opportunity that will not come again before the job interview. Young people particularly appreciate being addressed at eye level. They can prove their own abilities in stand activities, experiments and quizzes. HALLE MESSE and the Fachkräfteallianz Sachsen-Anhalt Süd, represented by the city of Halle (Saale), are continuing their cooperation, which began in 2023, for the 2024 Chance.

Job and career - opportunities in the region

As a job fair, Chance is of great importance for skilled workers in the region. In addition to the Fachkräfteallianz Sachsen-Anhalt Süd (Skilled Workers Alliance of South Saxony-Anhalt), regional and national companies are at the fair to provide information about their current job offers and entry paths. Universities, colleges and technical colleges as well as training and further education academies also present their offers, programs and training measures. At the job and apprenticeship exchange, visitors can find an overview of vacancies in the region.

How does a good idea become a successful innovation?

The InnoTruck will be providing answers to this and many other questions: as an “innovation ambassador” for the BMBF, the two-storey exhibition vehicle will be travelling around Germany and will be stopping off at Chance 2024. The aim is to seize opportunities and provide information about research, technology and application, as well as related job profiles.

Vocational training and further education - opportunities and prospects

Focus on dual vocational training

Choosing a career path requires careful preparation. It is important to think about your own abilities early on and to find out which professions will be in demand in the future. Recent studies show that almost half of the high school graduates prefer an apprenticeship to a university degree – and the trend is rising. This is precisely where the trade fair comes in, focusing on dual vocational training; it can have a positive long-term impact on the problem of skilled labor, especially for medium-sized companies. The exhibitors provide practical information; visitors can test themselves and their abilities in many hands-on activities and thus find out their strengths. Of course, a career in the skilled trades does not have to end with vocational training. With many opportunities for further training, a career can be further expanded up to obtaining the master craftsman's certificate. This sets the course early on for future self-employment, whether it be through starting a new business or taking over an existing one. The Chamber of Crafts and Trades Halle (Saale) (Hall 1, Stand E 4) and the Chamber of Industry and Commerce Halle-Dessau (Hall 1, Stand C 3) are the local points of contact for all these topics. Colleges, universities and vocational academies are available to answer questions from prospective students. All the important information about current courses of study and admission requirements is available at the stands (especially in Hall 4).
